Texas Revolution Mini-Mural Project DUE 2-17-14


On a large sheet of paper/poster (11×17 or larger) convey the most important information about the Texas Revolution including:

  • What was it?
  • Who was involved?
  • Important dates (include a timeline)
  • Important events
  • Summary Sentence
  • Explanation of the impact (What did the Revolution have to do with change?)

The Mural must include:

  • At least one quote
  • An illustration
  • A symbolic border (pick a picture or symbol that is representative of the revolution. Draw it around the edge of the mural in a pattern to form a border. Be able to explain why you chose that symbol.
  • A timeline including the major events from the Law of 1830 through The Treaties of Velasco
  • A sentence summarizing the war
  • A sentence explaining the impact of the war


Students need to be prepared to explain their mural.

Narrative Example –

Prompt: Write about a time you felt alone at home or somewhere else.

Alone is a feeling, not necessarily where you are physically. I can be alone in my house or in my car. But, I can also feel alone when I’m surrounded by strangers. If they aren’t people we know, we may feel alone in the world.

I stepped tentatively into my brand new middle school, there were hundreds of chattering voices filling the air. Scary new faces were all around me. These jabbering strangers would soon be my classmates. Each kid had a LL Bean brightly colored backpack. The aisle was lined with green metallic lockers and the combinations were clicking like a typewriter as students opened the locks. The doors slammed shut as kids dumped their supplies inside. All of these students were migrating like a herd of angry elephants to their classes.

My mom was standing beside me. The fear was taking over my body. My stomach was in knots and I felt like I was dressed all wrong for this school. Goosebumps began to form on my arm, and I glanced at my mother. I knew she couldn’t remain in this zoo. I took a deep breath, and turned to look at my mom. She had vanished like a ghost. I was ALONE! My mom had escaped and left me to fend for myself. The bell rang, and called forth a cavalry of middle schoolers to their first period class. I gulped and tasted the residue of the mint my mom gave me.

I took the first step forward and exhaled. Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I could do this. I knew I could work hard and make friends here. I may have been all alone in that moment, but I’m not alone in life.


Homophones can cause some trouble in our grammar and in our writing. Using the right word at the right time is an important skill. We are going over these in class and some of these words will be coming on a quiz on February 14th!
